Troy Terry Out Multiple Months After Hip Surgery

The Anaheim Ducks will need to begin the 2026-27 season without one of their most consistent forwards. According to a team announcement, Troy Terry successfully underwent surgery to repair a hip impingement and a labral tear, which will keep him on the shelf for the next five to six months.

Terry’s recovery timeline indicates he will be out until sometime between American Thanksgiving and Christmas. Terry’s need for surgery became apparent at Anaheim’s end-of-season media availability, as the team revealed he had the most significant injury of any player on the roster.

Still, it was difficult to tell that Terry was playing through anything during the postseason. He tied with Leo Carlsson for second on the team in scoring during the playoffs, registering three goals and 11 points in 12 games while averaging 17:56 of ice time per game.

Regardless, the surgery will lead to another shortened season for Terry during the 2026-27 campaign. This past season, due to an upper-body ailment, Terry finished with 19 goals and 57 points in 61 games with a +11 rating. It was the first time since the Covid-shortened 2020-21 season that Terry had played in fewer than 70 regular-season games.

In any case, the Ducks should have more than enough depth to operate without Terry for a few months. Even if Anaheim moves off from Mason McTavish this summer, they still have Mikael Granlund, Chris Kreider, Beckett Sennecke, Cutter Gauthier, and Carlsson as quality options in the top-six. Additionally, the team could move Frank Vatrano back into a top-six role for the time being as a stopgap option.
