The Australian flanker sustained the injury in March and has since experienced a relapse during rehabilitation. As a result, he is now expected to remain sidelined until early 2027.
Although born in South Africa, Hewat spent his early years there before moving to Queensland, Australia. His mother is Australian, while his father is of English descent and was raised in South Africa.
At international level, Hewat represented the Australia Schoolboys side and Australia U20, but he has yet to earn a senior Test cap for the Wallabies.
His leadership credentials emerged early, with Hewat captaining the Australian Schoolboys rugby union team.
He also led Australia at the 2017 World Rugby U20 Championship, featuring in five matches and scoring one try during the tournament.

Between 2016 and 2018, Hewat played in Super Rugby with the Queensland Reds, making a single appearance, while also representing Brisbane City in the National Rugby Championship, where he played six matches.
Injuries have previously disrupted his career. During that period, he underwent double shoulder surgery, which ruled him out for nine months.
After returning, he suffered a knee ligament injury during his first training session back, forcing him to spend a further nine months on the sidelines.
Hewat joined Pau in 2021 and had started 13 matches before his Achilles injury in March.
In a message posted on Instagram, he thanked supporters and said, “Unfortunately, I’ve hit another setback, but challenges are part of the journey. I’ll keep moving forward and come back stronger.”
