Police Reviewing Assault Allegation Against Jets QB Geno Smith

JUNE 23: “We were informed yesterday evening that, during review, it was determined that this case is being further investigated by detectives,” a new statement from a Davie PD spokesperson reads (h/t Cimini). “It is active and we cannot release any additional information at this time.”

JUNE 22: Police were called to Jets quarterback Geno Smith‘s home in Davie., Fla., on Sunday over an alleged battery, Edward Lewis of the California Post reports.

In a video posted on Instagram, a woman named “Kristen” alleged that Smith “beat my [expletive].” She also accused Smith of running outside and attacking her, breaking her computer and stealing money from her car. The footage of her video includes Smith arguing with her and telling someone on the phone, “She just called the police.”

The end of the 85-second clip shows Smith speaking with three police officers, though no one was taken into custody. That was the only time police were called to Smith’s home on Sunday, according to TMZ Sports.

“It is not an active case, but is still being reviewed before (a report) can be released,” a Davie Police Department spokesperson said (via Rich Cimini of ESPN).

Neither Smith nor the Jets have commented on the matter. Unless the NFL finds enough evidence to discipline Smith under its personal conduct policy, he is set to open the season as the Jets’ starting quarterback. It is the second Jets stint for Smith, who began his career with the team as a second-round pick in 2013.

After spending his first four years with the Jets, Smith had runs with the Giants, Chargers, Seahawks and Raiders from 2017-25. The Jets reunited with the 35-year-old in a trade with the Raiders in March. He is atop a depth chart that also includes Brady Cook, Bailey Zappe and fourth-round rookie Cade Klubnik.
