Undrafted Australian shooting guard Max Mackinnon has agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with the Hornets, ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reports (via Twitter).
After playing his first two seasons at Elon, Mackinnon transferred to Portland for his junior year before finishing his collegiate career at LSU, where he averaged 15.7 points and 2.5 assists per gameon .418/.376/.877 shooting splits. The 22-year-old also played five games for the Brisbane Bullets in the NBL during the 2021/22 season, scoring one point in 11 total minutes.
A 6’6″ guard, Mackinnon will join a team in Charlotte that has clearly prioritized offense, and especially three-point shooting, as evidenced by its selection of the sharp-shooting guard Christian Anderson Jr. in the first round, alongside offensive-minded center Hannes Steinbach.
The Exhibit 10 deal means that Mackinnon’s contract will not count against the Hornets’ salary cap during the offseason, but will begin to count if he is kept on the deal into the regular season. It can also be converted into a two-way deal prior to the start of the season.
Mackinnon was unrated on Jeremy Woo’s final top-100 big board for ESPN.
