The Kraken have taken care of one of their pending restricted free agents. The team announced (Twitter link) that they’ve signed center Logan Morrison to a one-year contract worth $850K at the NHL level. PuckPedia adds (Twitter link) that he will make $280K in the minors.
The 23-year-old signed with Seattle back in 2023 as an undrafted free agent. Morrison was a prolific point producer at the OHL level, notching 100 points in 60 games back in 2021-22 before adding 94 more in 56 games the following season to help him earn an entry-level deal.
The majority of that time was spent at the AHL level. Morrison has become a capable scorer with Coachella Valley and is coming off a season that saw him record 29 goals and 32 assists in 68 regular season games. However, while he earned a brief late-season recall in March, he didn’t see any NHL action. As a result, his only playing time at the top level came back in his rookie year in 2023-24 when he played in four games down the stretch, being held without a point.
Morrison will be waiver-eligible for the first time in the fall and will need to pass through unclaimed to return to the Firebirds. Assuming he does just that, he’ll be in line to play a key role with them once again in the hopes of earning another opportunity at the NHL level.
