While several players enhanced their reputations on the big stage, others endured difficult afternoons when their teams needed them most. Here, we take a look at five players whose performances fell short of expectations.
1 Adam Radwan
It may be harsh to label Adam Radwan a flop from this weekend, given that he received very little service in Leicester Tigers’ defeat to Northampton Saints.
Even so, by the exceptionally high standards he has set throughout the season, this was a performance that fell well below his usual level and one he will want to move on from quickly.
Critics have often argued that Radwan relies heavily on his pace and lacks some of the all round qualities needed to thrive at Test level. This match did little to challenge that perception, as he struggled to influence proceedings and was unable to make a meaningful impact.
2 Jack van Poortvliet
Jack van Poortvliet has steadily built momentum throughout the season and, with Alex Mitchell sidelined through injury, was presented with a valuable opportunity to impress Steve Borthwick and strengthen his case for selection.
Instead, he found himself overshadowed by opposite number Archie McParland, who delivered the more influential performance despite being the younger player. Van Poortvliet offered little going forward and was most noticeable for his defensive work.
With Leicester unable to establish control for long periods, scrutiny will inevitably fall on the scrum half’s performance.
