Volavola returns home as one of Fiji’s most experienced professional rugby players. The 48-capped Flying Fijian has enjoyed a distinguished career of 74 professional appearances across Super Rugby Pacific and Europe, representing clubs including the NSW Waratahs (9 caps, 2 tries), Crusaders (7 caps,1 try), Melbourne Rebels (11 caps), Queensland Reds (7 caps) while also playing professionally in France for Racing 92 (30 caps, 2 tries) and England for Leicester Tigers (10 caps, 1 try).
Volavola represented the Flying Fijians at the 2015 and 2019 Rugby World Cups, amassing 296 Test points during his international career. The veteran playmaker sits third on Fiji’s all-time points-scoring list and is widely regarded as one of the nation’s most accomplished fly-halves.
Excited about the opportunity, Volavola said: “I’m really excited to come back home with my family. And join everyone at the club and help build a culture that brings even more success to the Drua. I’m also excited to see you all the fans, to play at home and mingle with you all after the games during the season.”
Fijian Drua General Manager Rugby Baden Stephenson said:
“We are delighted to welcome Ben back home to Fiji and into the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua family. Ben brings a wealth of experience from playing at the highest levels of the game, including Super Rugby Pacific, international rugby and two Rugby World Cups with Fiji.
His leadership, game management and professionalism will be invaluable to our young squad both on and off the field. Ben has always been passionate about contributing to Fijian rugby, and we believe his experience and mentorship will play an important role in helping us continue to develop the next generation of Drua and Flying Fijians players.
