Restricted free agent guard/forward Kobe Sanders is re-signing with the Clippers on a four-year contract worth $11.2MM, reports Shams Charania of ESPN (via Twitter).
Law Murray of The Athletic hears Sanders’ new deal comes in at $11.3MM (Twitter link). Only the first two seasons are guaranteed, a team source tells Murray.
It appears as though Los Angeles will use Sanders’ Non-Bird rights to give the former Nevada star a deal worth slightly more than his minimum salary. The Clippers tendered a qualifying offer to Sanders on Monday, making him a restricted free agent.
Sanders was a five-year college player (four years at Cal Poly, final season at Nevada) who was a late second-round pick last year (50th overall). The California native averaged 7.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG and 1.6 APG on .466/.408/.826 shooting splits in 68 games as a rookie, including 16 starts (19.9 MPG).
At 6’8″, Sanders brings an interesting mix of size and versatility for a wing. He initially signed a two-way contract with L.A. but was promoted to a standard deal in February.
The Clippers still have two other restricted free agents: Bennedict Mathurin and Jordan Miller.
