Bulls To Guarantee Leonard Miller, Waive Kam Jones

The Bulls are fully guaranteeing the $2.41MM contract of Leonard Miller for next season, Michael Scotto reports for HoopsHype (via Twitter). The team also announced that it has waived guard Kam Jones (Twitter link).

Chicago acquired Miller in the Ayo Dosunmu deal at last season’s trade deadline. The third-year forward averaged career-highs of 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in 27 games for the Bulls, including 12 starts, while hitting 35.6% of his threes and shooting 55.5% from the field overall. Tuesday marked the official salary guarantee date for Miller — the club would have had to waive him to avoid locking in his cap hit.

Jones came to the Bulls in the draft-night trade that sent the 38th pick, which was used to select Braden Smith, to the Pacers. The 24-year-old guard played 37 games for the banged-up Pacers last season, averaging 3.2 assists to 1.0 turnover in 16.6 minutes per game, but he struggled with his outside shot and overall efficiency.

The Bulls will be on the hook for a partial guarantee worth $1,075,459 for Jones, assuming he’s not claimed on waivers.

Chicago will have approximately $31MM in space plus the $9.4MM room exception with only two or three 15-man roster spots and one two-way slot left to fill, K.C. Johnson of CHSN notes (Twitter link).
