Bones Hyland Re-Signing With Timberwolves On One-Year Deal

Free agent guard Bones Hyland is returning to the Timberwolves, sources tell Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (Twitter link). It’s a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum, per Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News and Skor North (Twitter link).

The 26th overall pick in the 2021 draft, Hyland bounced around the league over his first four seasons, playing for the Nuggets and Clippers before being traded to Atlanta in February 2025. The Hawks waived him a couple days later.

A few weeks after he was released, Hyland caught on with Minnesota, signing a two-way contract and finishing out the 2024/25 season with the Wolves. He re-signed with the team on a one-year, minimum-salary deal last offseason and will do so again this summer.

Hyland played some of the best basketball of his NBA career in the ’25/26 regular season, averaging 8.5 points, 2.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds on .453/.388/.780 shooting splits across 71 games (16.6 minutes per contest). He’ll provide depth at point guard behind LaMelo Ball, whom the team is set to acquire in a blockbuster trade with Charlotte.

Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, who drafted Hyland when he was running Denver’s front office, has a known affinity for the 25-year-old. Now the former VCU standout will return to the team that gave him another chance to revive his career.

As a five-year veteran, Hyland will earn about $2.7MM next season, while Minnesota will carry a cap hit of $2.3MM.
