Finau has been with the Chiefs since making his Super Rugby debut against the Highlanders in 2021 and has established himself as a regular member of the side’s loose forward group.
Born in Tonga, Finau attended St Peter’s Cambridge and represented Waikato before progressing through the Chiefs Under-20s programme and into the Super Rugby squad.
His performances earned national recognition in 2023 when he was selected for the All Blacks, becoming All Black No. 1211.
The 27-year-old scored on his Test debut against Australia in Dunedin, helping the All Blacks to a 23-20 comeback victory. He has since made 12 appearances for New Zealand.

In a statement, Finau reflected on his time with the franchise.
“My time at the Chiefs will always be one that I will cherish. It’s hard to say goodbye, but I’m really grateful for the people, the memories and the chance to represent this club.
“Wearing the jersey has been an honour and I hoped I have represented all this jersey stands for. Chiefs will always be home. Thank you.”
Finau is one of several Chiefs players set to depart for overseas opportunities following the 2026 season. Xavier Roe, Etene Nanai-Seturo, Lalakai Foketi, Liam Coombes-Fabling and Reuben O’Neill have also confirmed moves abroad.
